The past few days have carried shocking news for followers of the Israel/Palestine conflict. The coalition deal struck between the Likud party and Yisrael Beitenu seemed to point to a widening chasm between Livni and Netanyahu in their attempts at forming a unity government (Haaretz). On the Palestinian side, unity talks continued amid reports that elections in Palestine will be held in January 2010 (Reuters). The deal for Israeli corporal Shalit appears imminent today or tomorrow, but may break down over the issue of how many prisoners and, which ones, are to be released (Haaretz). Finally, violence continued in the occupied territories as settlers attacked a 22-year old Palestinian woman (Ma'an News Agency) and two Israeli policeman were shot dead by members of the Imad Mughniyeh Group, near Nablus (NY Times).Headline News
