30 years ago today, Israel and Egypt signed a historic agreement. Today, tensions are high between the two parties. There was scarcely a sound in Cairo. Egyptians tire of Israeli mentions of peace, amidst attacks on Palestinian civilians.
In Israel, there were celebrations of the historic treaty; Israeli President Peres called Egyptian President Mubarak to commemorate the two countries' 30-year peace. Despite cool sentiments, though, the two parties continue to collaborate, as Egypt coordinates the prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel and facilitates Palestinian government unity talks.
